This album illustration was made in Procreate for my digital illustration class. We got to choose any album we wanted to illustrate the cover, back, and CD. I chose to illustrate Lorde’s Solar Power album because I wanted to draw something with an uplifting vibe, even though the album is more than that. The surface-level sound, I think, is visually represented with the more pastel colors. The imagery was really inspired by the Birth of Venus painting. I thought it would be fitting to have the pearl in the composition since in real life, Lorde’s dog named Pearl passed away during the making of the album. This back cover was heavily inspired by the lyrics ‘I throw my cellular device in the water’ from Lorde’s Solar Power song. The CD design is kept simple, but I wanted to have the title incorporated into the composition, so I made it as if it were written in the sand. With all three pieces, I wanted to have different perspectives of the beach scenes.
